Located in the Sawtooth Mountains approximately 13 miles southwest of Stanley, Hell Roaring Lake is a hidden gem that is so worth seeking out. The lake can be accessed from State Highway 75 in the Sawtooth Valley. A trailhead is located about two miles from the lake on Sawtooth National Forest Road 97.

Surrounded by lodgepole pine forests and beautiful mountain scenery, the trail is an enjoyable little hike that isn’t too strenuous. In fact, it’s often heralded as a great hike for beginning backpackers and casual hikers.

Hell Roaring Lake is a gorgeous lake that is completely surrounded by the towering peaks of the Sawtooths. The Finger of Fate is one of the most notable peaks, topping out at a whopping 9,775-feet.
