The Mountain State has several rooftop eateries where you can order a glass of wine with your meal, but visiting a bona fide winery for a glass (or a bottle!) of wine is another thing entirely. Furthermore; a visit to a West Virginia winery is especially memorable when there are forever views of the mountains.

That’s precisely what you’ll find at Forks of Cheat Winery seven miles north of Morgantown.

What began more than 20 years ago as a small, one-acre personal vineyard has since grown to more than 15 acres featuring a vineyard, a tasting room, gift shop, and a special events venue.

And what’s more: you can sample their wines — and then buy a bottle and sit out back on the deck enjoying the never-ending view of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The gift shop contains bottles and bottles of wine and other locally-produced goodies that are perfect keepsakes as well as ideal gifts for any occasion.

Arrive at the right time, or schedule ahead, and you can take a tour of the facility to see the wine making process up close.

The winery sits at the top of a ridge and has views in practically every direction. So grab a bottle and a glass and sip on the outside deck overlooking the vineyard and the rolling mountains.
