Kansas is pretty well explored, with not many secret places falling through the cracks of our hikers and wildlife explorers. Today’s location isn’t a huge secret, because it’s sort of in the name of the town, but it’s not something many people have heard of yet. It’s a quiet place where not many people live or travel, but the waterfall and the nearby town are worth a day trip for sure.

Welcome to Elk Falls, home of (you guessed it) Elk Falls waterfall.

Right at Elk Falls, there’s a secret waterfall that many people don’t know about, probably due to the ghost town it’s part of. Less than 100 people live here in town, but those 100 are a great bunch to meet if you run into any of them during your visit.

Over this beautiful iron bridge, you’ll hear the rush (or trickle) of water flowing over the choppy rocks below.

The view off the side of the bridge is stunning, and you can hear the water from the bridge if there’s been any rain recently. Of course, during dry summers, we only get a trickle, but it’s still soothing to hear water moving so close.

If you’re adventurous, feel free to relax near the waterfall for a soothing experience right here at a Kansas natural waterway.
