Every spring, a truck carrying some huge logs arrives in Reedsport. Massive logs being transported down an Oregon highway is nothing new, but these are special.

The 20th annual Chainsaw Carving Championship takes place over Father’s Day weekend at Rainbow Plaza in Reedsport.

40 artists come from all over the world to participate, and thousands of spectators come to watch. The championship event includes two features. In the main sculpture event, artists are given four days (29 hours of carving time) to complete a sculpture.

The Quick Carve event is an incredible sight to see. Artists have just 90 minutes to transform a plain old log into a beautiful a work of art. At the end of this event, an auction is held, and you can buy one of these pieces of art to take home.

Admission to the championship events is just $5, or $15 for entrance on all four days. You’ll definitely want to attend on more than one day so you can see these works of art come to life right before your eyes.
