There’s no need to wait for a special occasion to enjoy the elegance of the Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern in North Carolina’s Capital City. This 1879 home (a mansion in its day) was built for the Mayor of Raleigh, William H. Dodd. Dodd would later sell the house to the Hinsdale family who kept the home in the family until 1971.

From there it was vacant for nearly 30 years and fell into a sad state of disrepair. And in 1997, it was purchased and renovated into the current fine dining establishment, Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern.

Reservations are recommended for a seat to enjoy this lovely dining experience; however, they are not required. If it’s a special occasion, you’ll definitely want a table in one of the upstairs rooms. The tavern, and its bricks wall,s is more casual, yet still refined.
