Virginia has so many hiking trails to choose from that the decision process can be overwhelming at times. The good news is you truly can’t go wrong with any of them, especially with an open mind and an appreciation for the great outdoors. Yet even still, some hikes stand apart for their sheer beauty and overlooks they lead to. One such example is Clyburn Ridge Trail in Hungry Mother State Park. With its gorgeous terrain, challenging inclines, and beautiful mountain overlook, this trek could be classified as a classic Virginia trail.
Hungry Mother State Park, located in southwestern Virginia, offers a breathtaking abundance of natural beauty. This state park was opened in 1936 as one of the six original Virginia State Parks.

Perhaps the best way to experience all that this iconic Virginia state park has to offer is by embarking on the Clyburn Ridge Hike. The loop measures 4.4 miles roundtrip and as rated as moderate. Rest assured, though, the views are well worth it.

Arriving to the top, you’ll be treated to some of the most breathtaking views in the state. The view of Hungry Mother Lake is absolutely breathtaking.

The lake measures 108 acres, but will look much smaller after you’ve climbed almost 1,000 feet.
