We don’t usually write about chain restaurants here at Only in Your State, but every once in awhile we just can’t help ourselves. This burger chain got its start with just one restaurant, and while it has grown to include 42 locations, the quality of its food is far above any national chain.
Burgerville got its start right across the Oregon/Washington state line, in Vancouver. The first restaurant opened in 1961, and more quickly followed. This photo shows the second location, which opened in Vancouver in 1962.

If you grew up in Oregon, you might have fond childhood memories of Burgerville. From The Dalles down to Corvallis, there are plenty of Oregon locations to get your burger and fry fix.

With their vintage-style tables, chairs, and bar stools, each location is different, but charming in its own, old-fashioned way.

If you’ve somehow never dined at Burgerville, we’ll give you the rundown. Yes, this place is a regional fast-food chain, but it’s a little bit different than a typical fast-food joint. The food here is sourced locally whenever possible. The company states that 72 percent of its food items are sourced from within 400 miles of its Vancouver headquarters.

Everything is made fresh at the restaurant daily. The beef is fresh, never frozen, and comes from local ranches. The chicken is antibiotic-free, and the vegetables are brought in from local farms.

Burgerville focuses on sourcing locally for all its menu items, and it always features a few limited-time seasonal specials. Right now, we’re over the moon with the hazelnut chocolate shakes and truffle shoestring fries.

The Truffle Shoestring Fries are our favorite seasonal item. How many fast-food restaurant serve fries drizzled with truffle oil, rolled in white truffle salt, and dressed with fresh, chopped parsley?

We’ve also heard that they’ll be bringing back their popular asparagus this spring, and we can’t wait. The seasonal items on Burgerville’s menu are only offered for a short time, so be sure to catch ’em while they last.

You’ll notice that your Burgerville meal comes wrapped in brown paper. That’s just one of the ways in which the company tries to keep its footprint to a minimum. The company uses recyclable materials, recycles its cooking oil for biodiesel, and uses renewable energy credits at all its restaurants.
