Bowling is played all over the world – in more than 90 countries, and has been around since ancient Egypt. It’s a fun, affordable way to spend time with friends and family, and you’ll find plenty of bowling alleys across the Beehive State. While many of Utah’s modern bowling venues have popped up just in the last 20 years or so, there are still a few old-school, vintage alleys left. Step into Bonwood Bowl in Salt Lake City, and you’ll go right back in time to the 1950s.

Bonwood Bowl opened its doors way back in 1957. Over the years, the alley has added lanes and updated its technology, but it’s still maintained its vintage feel.

The classic 1950s sign is still standing out front, and in fact, it just went through a thorough renovation.

In fact, some things really haven’t changed much at all since the good old days. The brightly-colored bowling balls are still lined up in the rack, and you’ll spend way longer than you’ll need to find just the right heft.

Bonwood is busy on weekends, and keep in mind that league play can fill up the lanes pretty quickly. In fact Bonwood hosts 50 different leagues, and participates in all kinds of charity events, including the Bowl For The Cure FUNdraiser for cancer research, which has brought in around $300,000 in donations over the years.
