Ever since the Wyler Aerial Tramway closed for good, Texas hasn’t been the same. Something about ascending a mountain and enjoying breathtaking views at the summit makes a summer afternoon so special. Luckily, there’s another alpine coaster at Lake Buchanan, just 60 miles northwest of Austin. Take a ride and soar high above the pristine water as the sun shines brilliantly overhead.

Located directly on the banks of Lake Buchanan, Spider Mountain is the first lift-served bike park in Texas. It’s open year-round, a perk that no other such place in the entire U.S. can claim.

Don’t ride? No worries - you can still ride the alpine coaster on its 350-foot ascent. Enjoy breathtaking aerial views of the lush surroundings, a cool breeze blowing through your hair.

It’s a family-friendly activity that promises to entertain kids and parents alike. One round-trip ticket is $20 for adults, and $15 for youth ages 3-18.

Once atop the mountain, five trails range in difficulty from beginner to expert. They’re all downhill, bringing bikers back to the bottom of the lift.

No need to lug your bike to the summit, as the chairlift takes care of that. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
