While it is tempting to take it easy in Hawaii — whether you’re exhausted from a rough week of work, or have come to the islands with a relaxing vacation in mind — sometimes it’s important to be a little more adventurous. That’s where one of my favorite water sport comes in: kayaking. Whether you are taking a river-guided journey into the jungle, leisurely paddling through the crystalline waters of one of the islands’ most popular bays, or cruising down the coast alongside rocky cliffs, kayaking adventures in Hawaii are as unique as they are unforgettable. This tour, however, might just be the best the Aloha State has to offer and we can’t wait to take you along for the ride.
If you want to enjoy a kayak tour, but aren’t quite sure what you want to experience, consider the Blue Lagoon excursion offered by Kayak Kauai. Paddle through the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, hop in and do some snorkeling, enjoy some beachcombing and birdwatching, and maybe even explore a few tide pools and caves.

Your adventure will begin at Kayak Kauai’s Wailua River Marina shop, where you will depart in a 14-passenger, air-conditioned van with your guide to the verdant north shore of the island, specifically the historic Hanalei Pier.

From here, you’ll hop in your kayak, and explore the picturesque Hanalei Bay, with its panoramic views of towering mountain peaks, valleys, and waterfalls. Paddle along the calm, scenic Hanalei Heritage River as your expert guide keeps you safe and entertained with natural history, local lore, and legends.

Each tour is approximately five hours and combines intermittent sea and river kayaking with beach and reef time, all within the enchantment of the Hanalei River, Bay, and Estuary.

Along the way, you might spot green sea turtles and spinner dolphins, as well as Layson albatross, and other shore and river birds.

Depending on sea conditions and the group assembled, you might find yourself paddling west along the perimeter of Hanalei Bay and into the lovely waters of the Wai’oli Stream…
