In 1911, the beautiful Plains Hotel was built in Cheyenne. In its early years, it hosted celebrities, dignitaries, and business moguls, not to mention plenty of vacationers and honeymooners. And while it remains an incredibly beautiful vacation destination to this day, it’s also harboring a secret… and her name is Rosie.
The Historic Plains Hotel is a local landmark.
JustinArn / TripAdvisor It was designed by William Duboise, and believe it or not, the entire cost for the lavish building and all its furnishings was $250,000.
The hotel’s gorgeous two-story lobby mezzanine was unparalleled, and it remains a perfectly preserved masterpiece.
management / TripAdvisor The hotel’s grand opening party was in March of 2011, and we can only imagine what a lavish affair it must have been. Army officers and ladies in elegant, fancy dresses danced to the live band until the wee hours.
But as lively and exciting as the hotel was, it wasn’t all fun and games here.
JustinArn / TripAdvisor Rumor has it that it was once the site of a deadly murder - suicide.
Legend has it that many years ago, a bride named Rosie and her groom were on their honeymoon here when things went awry.
management / TripAdvisor One evening, Rosie’s new husband went to the hotel lounge for a few drinks, where he met a prostitute. Rosie eventually went to find her husband and caught him heading upstairs with the other woman. In a fit of jealous rage, she killed them both using her husband’s gun before eventually turning the gun oh herself in her own room.
Ever since that tragic night, paranormal activity has been reported at The Plains Hotel.
The Historic Plains Hotel Facebook Rosie apparently haunts the second floor of the building. She’s been spotted wandering the halls, and hotel staff and guests alike have heard laughing and crying coming from the room that was once her honeymoon suite.
The spirits of Rosie’s groom and his lady friend have also been spotted on the fourth and second floors, respectively.
Travelin_Bear / TripAdvisor However, it’s Rosie herself that’s seen most often.
Of course, it’s impossible to know for sure if this historic hotel is full of vengeful spirits.
management / TripAdvisor But we do know that it’s a cozy, comfortable, and charming place to stay.
