Kansans are naturally hard workers, and when you’re a hard worker, you get a little stressed on occasion. Sometimes we get very busy, and forget to take time to ourselves, and we can’t have that. Kansas’ natural scenery is our favorite way to de-stress, and there’s plenty of it around to explore. When you’re looking for some peaceful trails to explore for a while, you’ll find plenty of them in Kansas. Here’s a few of our favorites for you to check out first!
- Prairie Spirit Rail Trail
Doug Neidholdt/AllTrails This trail is quite long, but any section that you choose is well worth the adventure. All 50.9 miles of it are gorgeous in any season, and not heavily trafficked, so you can get plenty of alone time. It runs from Ottawa to Humboldt, Kansas, and is mostly made of crushed gravel in a wide path covering what used to be a railroad.
- Alcove Springs
Doug Neidholdt/AllTrails This short but sweet trail is only half a mile long, but the calming trickle of this small waterfall is the main attraction. If you catch it after a rain, the water sounds are sure to relax you completely.
- Crystal Trail
James Elliott/AllTrails Two miles of beautiful trail in Milford State Park make up the Crystal Trail, where you’ll have plenty of space to be alone with nature. Part of the trail almost touches the water, but for the most part, you’re covered by trees and the sun above you.
- Elk River Hiking Trail
Daniel Murphy/AllTrails A little longer than most, this trail sits at 14 miles from one end to the other. During the trail, you’re surrounded by rock faces, overlooks of the lake, and more breathtaking sights.
- Cedar Ridge
James Elliott/AllTrails This short half-mile loop trail is perfect for spotting wildflowers and breathing in the sweet Kansas air.
- Santa Fe Lake
Kevin McArthur/AllTrails Some of us take a little more to relax, which is why Santa Fe Lake is perfect for that. Instead of a cool trickle, the waterfall here is much noisier and better for blocking out other sounds. The trail itself is a 4.6 mile loop, where you’ll find plenty of time alone to yourself.
- Konza Prairie Nature Trail Loop
Mary Barrett-Willard/AllTrails The Konza Prairie has a lot of space to explore, but the nature trail loop is 2.7 miles of peaceful, open prairie for you to enjoy at your leisure.
- Chisholm Creek Park
Paula Michelle/AllTrails This park in Wichita is a hidden oasis of relaxation in an otherwise busy city. There’s like 2 miles of trail, but it’s full of local wildlife, water features, and a little tunnel of trees.
- Lehigh Portland Trails: Mt. Lehigh
Randy Rasa/AllTrails This trail, named “Mt. Lehigh” is only named this due to it being the highest elevation at this trail location. It’s not as easy to navigate as other trails in this list, so you may want to bring your walking stick.
Below is a handy map [click here for the link] that’ll show you the trailhead (or in some cases, park) that the trails are attached to. Happy trails!

If you love peace and quiet surrounded by Kansas beauty, this country bed and breakfast is even better than these trails.
