Hurricane season lasts from June 1 until November 30. Since we are in the middle of hurricane season right now and we’ve already had a little scare with Barry, it’s time to talk about the thoughts every New Orleanian has during hurricane season. Of course, hurricanes are very nothing to joke about and you should take them very seriously, but sometimes the pattern that every New Orleanian falls into during hurricane season can be a little humorous.

  1. This warm weather is just heating up the Gulf

  1. That’s not going to come here

US Coast Guard Academy/Flickr Yes, we will try to will a hurricane away.

  1. Should I stay or should I go?

James Joel/Flickr The eternal question. When it comes to hurricanes, it’s better to be safe than sorry, but it’s never easy to just pack up and go.

  1. I need to get groceries

Chris Waits/Flickr And so does every other New Orleanian. All at the same time. Those lines are worse than a Black Friday at Best Buy.

  1. Bread. Milk. Eggs.

Romana Klee/Flickr The essentials for hurricane prep, and no one knows why. You could be lactose intolerant, vegan, and gluten free and you’ll still end up buying this trifecta of hurricane prep.

  1. Do I have enough alcohol?

Phil Kates/Flickr The answer is no. Go buy more.

  1. Should I move my car?

Derek Bridges/Flickr The answer is yes. It will flood.

  1. Sorry (other city/state) but we just can’t take the hit

Jared Smith/Flickr No one wants a hurricane to pass over their city, but we will take.

  1. I wonder if my neighborhood bar is open?

Lars Plougmann/Flickr Because even though you bought enough alcohol to get you through the apocalypse, you’re going stir crazy from sitting at home and you’re ready to leave the house.
