Tonawanda Castle/Facebook Less than 20 minutes north of Downtown Buffalo, Tonawanda Castle is the ultimate place in Erie County to host a special event. This historic castle dates all the way back to 1897 and is one of the most unique venues near the Queen City to rent out for weddings, parties, and other special occasions.

It sits in the popular town of Cooperstown and you can take a magical boat ride that will take you past this beautiful but little-known castle. Glimmerglass Queen Boat Tours will give you an excellent view of the 60-foot-tall castle, which was constructed all the way back in 1876. Sounds like an exciting adventure, right?

The four-hour drive makes this castle better suited for a visit during a longer weekend trip, but it’s absolutely a destination you need to see. Boldt Castle is situated on Heart Island, which is just a quick boat ride from Alexandria Bay, and offers tours throughout the warmer months of the year. When you’re out on the river and surrounded by the beauty of this region, you’ll think you’ve been swept away to a fairytale land when you lay your eyes on Boldt Castle and tour it for yourself.
