Is winter on your shortlist of things that make you grind your teeth at night? There’s nothing like a few days of temps in the single digits to make you reconsider your love for freshly fallen snow. It may even tempt you to talk friends and relatives into waiting until spring or summer to visit from out of state. Need some help convincing them to stay home until after the thaw? We’re not sure this list is entirely going to help, but feel free to send it along to them anyway. We tried (really hard) to come up with some bona fide reasons why winter is unsightly, cold, and just plain miserable in the Mountain State. What do you think of our list?

  1. Snow is positively ugly.

Flickr/jeff covey Just look how it makes everything the same color, or lack of color!

  1. The waterfalls freeze.

TripAdvisor/Melaney68 It’s really a bit unsightly, don’t you think?

  1. Tubes, sleds, toboggans… they all go so fast!

Flickr/ Amber Karnes You have to be careful or your face will freeze with a smile on it.

  1. All the snow makes it too difficult to meet up with friends.

Flickr/kirybabe And what would you do with them anyway? (So. Much. Snow.)

  1. Did we mention there’s absolutely NOTHING to do in the winter?

Flickr/justgrimes Trust us: you’ll get tired of staying inside and playing board games.

  1. There’s nothing fresh to eat.

Flickr/Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing - Northern VA Even the fish are frozen, the water is so cold.

  1. Snowball fights are just too violent.

Flickr/Mikhail Koninin Who wants to play in the snow anyway?

  1. No one ever goes outside.

Flickr/Kevin Schraer Brrrr. You’ll start to shiver just looking out the window.

  1. Where’s the fun in making a snowman?

Flickr/ Henrik Betnér Soon after the sun comes out, all you’ll have is the memories of your new best snow friend…

  1. Snow makes things too peaceful and quiet.

Flickr/Joanne C Sullivan Nope. Move along… nothing to see here.

  1. Wintertime sunrises here are “just okay.”

Flickr/Gene Meh. May as well sleep in.

  1. And the winter sunsets are just as ugly.

TripAdvisor/management My eyes are tearing up a little just looking at this, yet I somehow can’t look away.

If after reading this list, your out-of-state friends and relatives aren’t entirely convinced there’s nothing to see or do in the Mountain State during winter, then they should definitely keep reading here!
