People who don’t live in New Hampshire don’t always understand why Granite Staters love it so much. One look at the cold weather and snow, and most folks try to keep their distance. But once the sun comes out and the temperature gets warmer, they start to think maybe they’ve been wrong about our little state. Some of those people even end up moving here! So, to remind them of all the things that kept them from coming here in the first place, here are the reasons it’s best to just stay away.

  1. You’ll be constantly distracted by the things around you.

Mark Bonica / Flickr If you want to get anything done around here, you’ll have to hide inside. How are you supposed to be productive when views like this surround you? Honestly, it’s just not worth it.

  1. Which also means you won’t be able to keep your eyes on the road.

pennuja / Flickr How are you going to be able to enjoy a drive if you can’t concentrate with your hands at ten and two? It’s far too beautiful around here to properly drive, so just stay home and avoid these views.

  1. You’ll constantly be full from all the awesome food.

bokchoi-snowpea / Flickr Not only will you find yourself always wanting to try something new, you also won’t be able to stop thinking about all the seafood. Fried clams? Get ready to have them on the brain all. the. time.

  1. Winters are utterly awful.

off-the-road / Flickr Look at this mess! You might as well just say inside and hunker down under the covers. There’s nothing beautiful to see here.

  1. You’ll constantly be reliving the past.

michelgagnon / Flickr There’s so much history here that you’ll be forced to live in the past instead of in the now. Who needs that?

  1. It’s so far north, it’s always cold.

tanj / Flickr You’ll never be able to swim because the water is too cold. In fact, the air is too cold also. You’ll probably just end up staying inside all day.

  1. You can say goodbye to any spare room on your phone.

nickerwin / Flickr There are just too many things you’ll want to capture in photos. Who needs a camera roll full of beauty? Not you!

  1. And what about all the apples you pick each autumn weekend?

masstravel / Flickr Just WHAT are you supposed to do with all those? I guess you’ll just be forced to make apple pies every weekend. FINE.

  1. It’s so boring and your kids won’t be stimulated.

Mark Bonica / Flickr All they’ll have to do is look out over the lakes and forests that surround them while playing and learning about creativity. Is that any way to live?!

  1. All that fresh seafood will render your fish oil supplements useless.

masstravel / Flickr And if you can’t take fancy vitamins how will your friends know you’re a wellness-focused, healthy person?!

  1. There are too many small towns.

christopdesoto / Flickr And they’re all so boring. There’s nothing look at, no history to enjoy and certainly nothing that makes you feel calm and centered.

Most people know that the weather in New Hampshire can change in an instant. But, let’s not forget that the seasons themselves can change just as quickly! Here’s a primer on what to expect with New Hampshire’s 11 seasons. That’s right…we’ve got 11 seasons!
